Are YOU battling colds?
Are YOU battling colds? Well, I thought I had managed to escape the germs and unfortunately I haven't.
There are so many people suffering from colds at the moment. As the germs are all around I tend to focus on taking immune-boosting foods and supplements and use Reiki and Kinesiology techniques I know will help improve my immune system. Thankfully, most of the time, it tends to work. So how can we support the effects of colds, how can we support our immune systems and how can we stay healthy? How can we fight back against the bugs?
Over the years my immune system has been terrible but since starting my own health and wellness business I have worked hard to improve it so I don’t have so many colds and when I do have one I find it much easier to deal with and it doesn’t last as long. I don’t know about you but I don’t have time for colds and feeling grotty.
With such busy lives we need a nice strong immune system to help us cope with all the germs that float about, so how can we do this? Here are some very simple remedies you could apply
Eat the Right Foods
I know this can be difficult at times because often when we have a cold we crave carbohydrates. However, to boost our immune systems we need the foods that give us the right nutrients. So ideally make sure you are including the right foods such as a range of rainbow colour fruit and veg (at least 5 portions a day) in your diet. If you find it hard to fit in 5 or more portions of fruit and veg into your day then why not pop them in a smoothie.

In my smoothies I add:
1 large handful of spinach
1 large handful of blueberries
6 strawberries
½ and avocado
1 apple or pear
To enhance your intake vitamins and minerals why not add some fabulous greens. You could add a scoop of Green Superfood to your smoothie.
Oh yes and water of course. I add it all into the blender (NutriBullet in my case) and wiz it up creating a delicious, nutritious and filling smoothie which I usually have in the morning or mid-afternoon as a pick me up. Often I use the frozen berry mix which is so handy to keep in the freezer. You can, of course, add a wide range of fruits and I sometimes also add pineapple, kiwi or celery. Pineapple is brilliant because it is an anti-inflammatory. This is due to the bromelain which is great for reducing inflammation and is also great for helping the digestive system.2018-01-08
Rolled oats have antioxidants and anti-microbial properties so fabulous for boosting your immune system. Adding some of the antioxidant filled berries or even some organic cocoa powder will not only add flavour but enhance the immune boosting properties.
Taking vitamins and mineral supplements
For me, taking vitamins and mineral supplements to help boost my immune system is a must, especially when there are a lot of germs floating around. I also like to take them as prevention and to keep my immune system and digestive system strong and healthy. Supplements including a good antioxidant which include, vitamin A, vitamin E, zinc, selenium and vitamin C are all so good for fighting infection. Vitamin D and a multivitamin & mineral which will include all you need to fight the germs. I tend to use supplements from companies like Higher Nature, Cytoplan, Epigenetics or Neal’s Yard as I know they are excellent quality. (Details below)
I mentioned bromelain earlier as being useful for digestive health which in turn will support your immune system. Probiotics are another useful product to keep in your cupboard as increasing the good gut bacteria will support your immune system. I prefer to take it in supplement form but you can, of course, opt for having it in yoghurts. The yoghurt needs to contain live and active cultures with no sugar. If you decide to take the probiotic in supplement form then it is best taken before bed, on an empty stomach.
Herbs and Spices
Herbs and spices such as ginger, garlic, cinnamon, thyme and cat’s claw are great for boosting our immune system. Echinacea is brilliant although it is advisable not to take it all the time.
The Benefits of Exercise and Sleep
Regular exercise and I don’t mean intense exercise unless of course, you enjoy an extreme workout. I love to walk with a little jogging here and there. Walking is fantastic for mind, body and soul. Sleep, of course, is very important as it strengthens our immune system. When we are sleeping our cells are regenerating which would help us recover from infection and improve our immune system. So ultimately, the important thing when you do have a cold or flu is to have good nutrition, sleep and rest.

Super Salt pipes and Salt Caves
Salt pipes are fantastic for supporting the lungs so for any of you that suffer from coughs, asthma or allergies getting a salt pipe could really help. Salt caves are also a relaxing way to help respiratory problems. Overall, salt helps due to the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
